Beckley Art Center Announces Digital Arts Lab

Beckley Art Center is excited to announce our latest program.  We are launching the first phase of our Digital Arts Lab!  With this new lab we intend to offer our community access to tools and education in new media topics such as digital storytelling, video poetry, podcasting, videography, generative art and much more.  Our goal is to give artists and creatives the skills and knowledge to expand their work to include new media tools and techniques.

Our first workshop, Intro to Digital Storytelling, takes place on Saturday, June 11th, from 9:00 am to noon.  More details on the workshop can be found here.

Digital storytelling is a form of digital media production that allows an individual to create a personal narrative or essay composed of photographs, text, sound, music, video and other components.  These productions are typically short in duration and are told from the first-person point of view.  These same techniques and tools can also be used to create video poetry as well.

For more information on the concept of digital storytelling, visit StoryCenter, one of the pioneering organizations in the medium.  For more information on video poetry, visit Motion Poems or Filmpoem.

This program is made possible by a grant from Beckley Area Foundation and support from StudioElevenTen.
