This three-hour workshop will be team-taught with three fabulous and professional dancers/teachers. Participants will start the afternoon with an hour titled "Zills and Hips" by teacher Susan Hughart. Instruction will be given on playing fingers cymbals called zills. Participants may bring their own zills, or purchase a pair from a vendor that afternoon. Then, an hour of instruction titled "Entrance/Exit - Now How Do I Dance? Valuable advice will be given by teacher Sandra Stewart , a.k.a. Alexandria on stage presence from a performer who has danced and taught on an on-going basis since the late 1970s. Finally, the afternoon will wrap up with Tribal 101, instructed by Kali Martin, from Charleston, WV, who is hailed as "West Virginia's Star of the Tribal Style of Dance." Her troupe has performed in many venues around the state. These three ladies have a cumulative experience of more than 50 years dancing. This workshop is appropriate for both men and women of all ages, all experience levels, and all fitness levels. You are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing (yoga pants and a t-shirt or bellydance practice wear are acceptable). Tiled floor; slippers recommended but not required. This workshop will be held in the upstairs gallery space at the Beckley Art Center, 600 Johnstown Road, Beckley, WV.
The Beckley Art Center will enforce the policy of the instructors of no cameras or video during this workshop. If you would like to have a picture taken with one of the instructors following the workshop, you may request that at the end of the workshop.
Workshop Fee: $30 if paid by March 24. $35 thereafter; space is limited to the size of the facility, and this workshop will sell out fast. We recommend that you reserve your seat soon. If space is available, $35 at door.
