COMICS: First Draft Workshop

  • Beckley Art Center 600 Johnstown Road Beckley, WV 25801 (map)

This multi-week, 1 hour course will focus on the comic format, and will teach about comics as a true artistic medium. Students will learn how to create comics while exploring their history, their relation to politics and art, and how they function as a mode of theatrical expression, as well as a way of upending time and space. Students will join their classmates and Instructor Patrick Facemire in outlining, writing, story boarding and drawing their own works, receiving feedback and suggestions from their peers as they expand their knowledge and range of thought in a versatile and powerful medium.

For students ages 13 and older; as this is a highly focused course, no more than twelve students will be accepted.

Payment will be $130 up front for the full course; students may also pay $15 per class on a pay-as-you-go-basis on a first-come, first-serve basis. The first class in the course will be free.

This is NOT a Drop In Class; registration is required by calling 304-253-9226.

Students will be expected to provide their own materials unless otherwise notified by the instructor.

AUGUST 4: First Draft Workshop

Students will bring in first drafts of storyboards and one (or more) completed pages as an example of the artwork.
